2011

This report assembles a vast array of evidence to demonstrate that incarcerating kids doesn't work: Youth prisons do not reduce future offending, they waste taxpayer dollars, and they frequently expose youth to dangerous and abusive conditions. The report highlights successful reform efforts from several states and provides recommendations for how states can reduce juvenile incarceration rates and redesign their juvenile correction systems to better serve young people and the public.

America’s Invisible Children: Latino Youth and the Failure of Justice

This report, a product of The National Council of La Raza and the Campaign for Youth Justice, examines recent information about Latino youth in the justice system with a specific focus on youth tried as adults. In addition to providing a detailed overview of racial disparities and structural racism in the justice system, this report looks at a variety of national initiatives that have been successful at reducing racial inequities in detention facilities among Latino youth.
