Information serves as the driver of effective public policymaking. The ever rapid need to transfer information from federal to state and local governments, in addition to changing demographics and a society accustomed to instant access to information, has created a demand for current and reliable data to inform and support policymaking. This paper reviews how the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey is helping to provide timely data at the state and local level.
